Heilman wins Red Cedar Match Games
Nick Heilman of La Crosse defeated Dave Langer of Brooklyn Park, MN 217-215 in the second championship match to win the 2010 Red Cedar Match Games held Saturday at Broadway Bowl in Menomonie.
Langer advanced to the championship match through the loss side of the double elimination bracket, and needed two wins over Heilman in the championship round. Langer and Heilman both threw solid games in the first championship match, with Langer edging out the win 258-240. (Heilman opened the tenth, but could not have won even had he spared, so it was apparent he was getting lined up for game two.)

Langer took home $580 for second.
Superior’s Pat Erickson finished third, earning $395,
Todd Savoy, also of Superior was fourth, earning $320

53 bowlers signed in Saturday morning for the one day tourney. Snow and poor road conditions had a definite impact on the number of entries, with many bowlers calling in to say they would not be making the trip, and even a couple stating they were stuck in the ditch.
The scoring pace was high for the tourney, with three 300 games and a cut of +200 for the top 13. Sam Sylvester and Todd Savoy were the top two qualifiers, both earning a bye to the round of 8 bracket. The remaining eleven qualifiers rolled 4 games, with the top 6 advancing to the bracket.
The oil pattern, coined “Broadway Blue”, was a 4:1 ratio and 42’ in length. It was playable to start the day, and seemed to open up throughout the 8 game qualifying set.
